# Set company context

### TL;DR

Company context tells the AI who your organization is and what your data represents. When set, the assistant uses this information to ground its answers in your business rather than giving generic responses.

### When to use this

Use this page when the assistant's answers feel too generic or when it misinterprets business-specific terms. A well-written company context helps the assistant understand your industry, your data model, and the meaning behind your numbers.

### Who can change this

Changing the company context requires the **organization update** permission, which **member**, **admin**, and **owner** roles have. Users with the **explorer** role cannot change it.

This setting is available on plans that include AI customization. If the section is locked, contact your account manager.

### How to set company context

1. Open **Settings** and select **AI behavior** in the left sidebar.
2. In the **Company context** card, describe your company and data in the text field.
3. Click **Save**. A confirmation ("Context updated") appears once the change is applied.

`Acme Corp is a B2B SaaS company in the HR space. Our data covers employee demographics, performance reviews, compensation benchmarks, and turnover across 12 business units in 4 regions.`

### Fill with AI

If your organization uses a professional email address and has Anthropic configured as its AI provider, a **Fill with AI** button appears in the card. Clicking it generates a company context draft by searching the web for publicly available information about your organization.

Review the generated draft before saving — it is a starting point, not a final description.

**Fill with AI** requires:

* A professional email address on your account (not a generic domain such as gmail.com).
* Anthropic selected as your AI provider. See [Choose your AI provider and model](/govern/ai-control-and-optimization/select-your-ai-provider.md).

### Good to know

* **Character limit**: company context is capped at 3,000 characters.
* **What to include**: your industry, the type of data you track, key business units or regions, and any domain-specific terms the assistant should understand.
* **Scope**: the context applies organization-wide to every AI interaction.
