What is a Crew

Who is in a Toucan AI Crew, what each member does, and what you get from it.

A Toucan AI Crew is a team that builds your data apps and improves them every day. It is made of three things that go together: AI agents that do the work, Toucan experts who train them and validate what ships, and a way of working where you ask and receive, without building anything yourself.

You describe what you need in business terms. You do not write queries, configure charts or maintain pipelines.

Who is in the Crew

Every Crew has the eight agents below, each with its own job:

AgentWhat it does
Project managementHandles your requests and follows them through.
DataConnects and prepares your data for your data apps.
QualityHelps you improve the quality of the data that reaches Toucan AI.
MetricsGuarantees one shared definition of your metrics, calculations and business rules.
AnalysisProduces reports and analyses on your data.
ApplicationsManages your data apps and follows how they are used.
AccessDecides who has access to your data apps, and who sees what.
Business and industry expertBrings up-to-date knowledge of your industry and your business.

Depending on your project, your Crew can also include:

AgentWhat it does
ReportsPrepares the reports you print, send or present.
Data entryLets your teams enter data directly in their data apps.
TranslationTranslates your data apps into the languages of your teams.
External sharingOpens your data apps to people outside your organization.
MigrationTakes over your existing dashboards and apps and moves them to Toucan AI.

Your Crew's home shows you, the Pilots, the agents that matter for your project.

Your Toucan expert is in charge of the Crew: they train it on your business during the first month, then sign off every release.

What you get

  • The data app. What everyone sees: your users, internal or external. It is built on your organization's data in Toucan AI, reads it through the shared definitions of your semantic layer, and respects each user's access rights.
  • Your Crew's home. The Pilots' space in Toucan AI, which your Crew sets up for your organization. It introduces the agents that work on this project, for example "Your Sales Crew". Each agent has its own page, where you talk to it and see what it does for you: where your data comes from and its quality, the business rules to validate, the requests, and who sees what. "Your Applications" lists the data apps your Crew built. Only Pilots and admins see the home; your end users open their data apps.
  • The Requests page. In Toucan AI, where you ask your Crew for what you need: a change to a data app, an analysis, a user to add, a metric to redefine. It lists everything you asked for and where each request stands, and it is where you approve the changes that wait for you.

What to expect

  • A first result within 48 hours, on your real data, and your data app in production within one month, each validated by your Toucan expert. During that month, your contact is your Toucan expert.
  • A Crew that works on its own by the end of the first month, at the level of autonomy you want.
  • A new release every business day. A request usually gets a preview the same day, then goes live the next business morning, after the Crew's overnight checks.
  • Every release is validated by a human. Your Toucan expert validates every release ("this is right"), and you approve the preview yourself when you ask for it ("this is what I wanted").
  • A wrong number does not ship. If a check finds a wrong number, the release does not go out and the previous version stays live.

Crew and Core

Core and Crew run on the same platform. The difference is who does the work, and what it is for.

A Toucan AI Crew serves one project, that is one business domain. The two work together: to build or explore yourself, see Core.
